Honestly, the best part of living out here on Rebecca Creek Rd isn't the view — though it's pretty great — it's finally being able to turn off the AC. Fall in the Texas Hill Country is the only reason some of us survive the August heat. It's that time of year when the humidity drops just enough that you can sit on the porch without feeling like you're in a sauna. And it's not just about the weather. It's about the town festivals, the Friday night lights, and the fact that everyone's just a little bit happier.
Last week, Tiffany and I were heading down 281 toward San Antonio and I saw the first signs for the local pumpkin patches. It reminded me of a couple I helped over in Copper Canyon in Bulverde. They were worried about moving away from the city, but then they saw the community events and the local vibe, and they were sold. That's the thing about this area — it feels like a real community, especially this time of year.
Where we're heading this year
Look, Wurstfest in New Braunfels is the big one. It's basically a local holiday. It's loud, it's crowded, and there's more sausage than anyone should probably eat in a lifetime. But you've gotta do it. There's nothing quite like it. I personally like the smaller stuff, though. The events along the FM 3009 corridor toward Seguin have a much more laid-back feel. It's less about the tourists and more about catching up with neighbors you haven't seen since the kids went back to school.
And then there's Gruene. (Tiffany's favorite, obviously). The Guadalupe River looks different when the air gets crisp. We usually grab a beer at the Hall and just soak it in. It's one of those spots that never gets old, no matter how many times you've been.
The best drives for local vibes
If you've got a free Saturday, take the back roads. Start at our office here in Spring Branch and head toward Blanco. The scenery along the way is exactly why I've spent my life building homes in these hills. I love seeing a well-placed house on a limestone cliff. If you want to see what's popping up on the market lately, you can check out our latest listings — there are some pretty incredible spots hitting the market right now that'll give you a front-row seat to those fall sunsets.
So, if y'all are out and about in Canyon Lake or grabbing a burger in Spring Branch, enjoy it. This weather won't last forever. If you see our truck parked near a local festival, come say hi. We're usually the ones talking about foundation pours or where to find the best tacos in Comal County. If you're curious about making the move out here, just shoot us a text.
